Within the last few years, forest recreation has become an important part of forest management. Large increases in demands for forest-oriented recreation have made land managers sharply aware of their responsabilities to meet those demands. Forest recreation is a new and driving influence in the management of forest lqands within the United States. It is beset by many uncertainties thad need solution. Research has just begun to give land managers and technicians the answers that they need to cope with recreational needs of the American public. The specific research findings on how to plan,to develop and to administer forst recreation areas are scattered throughout hundreds of pamphlets and newsletters. This book strives to consolidate the scattered findings of many researrchrs, the problems that confront forest recreation administrators, and the desires of the using public public into one publication....
